Inflammation can play a big part in your overall health. What is inflammation? It is our body’s way of protecting itself from infection. However in the case of chronic infection, the body’s defense system, the immune system, begins attacking healthy body tissues. Chronic inflammation can potentially cause such health issues as allergies, arthritis, heart disease, alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, tendonitis and even cancer.

imagesIf you’re plagued with chronic inflammation, you may want to take a closer look at the foods you eat. There are many foods that can contribute to inflammation such as processed foods, refined sugars, refined grains, and pasteurized dairy to name a few. A Mediterranean diet or even Paleo would be a great place to start to begin eliminating inflammation foods. Real foods that you can make at home, that grow from the earth, are the best choices you can make for your body. Foods that are fantastic for reducing inflammation are:

  • Turmeric
  • Blueberries
  • Coconut oil
  • Broccoli
  • Salmon
  • Chai Seeds
  • Pineapple
  • Flax seeds
  • Ginger
  • Walnuts
  • Bone Broth
  • Green Leafy Vegetables
  • Beets
  • Celery

These are some simple steps you can take to reduce inflammation.

  1. Eliminate Sugar and vegetable oils
  2. Drastically reduce your intake of processed foods!
  3. Drink plenty of water. Preferably half your body weight converted to ounces in water daily.
  4. Daily exercise, even a simple walk around the block can help get you moving.
  5. Drink a cup of bone broth daily. The health benefits are endless!
  6. Resolve anger and stress, both of these can have a negative effect on your health.
  7. Sleep. Getting 8-hours of sleep every night can reduce and prevent chronic inflammation!

Many of the lifestyle changes that prevent inflammation are not terribly drastic! You don’t need a lot of effort to have an anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle. As we learn more, we continue to see that taking care of ourselves naturally is the best way to prevent and correct worrisome health conditions. Our bodies are wonderfully complex and resilient, but they need our nurturing. Investigate, if you’ve tried everything but still notice symptoms of inflammation, you may want to try some form of alternative therapies to deal with pain management. Many people have found significant pain relief through acupuncture, massage, water therapy, and other mind–body treatments that reduce pain and inflammation naturally without having to rely on pain medications.

  1. Hi, Thanks for this post. I’m just wondering, what is Bone Broth? Is this something that needs to be made from scratch or can I purchase this in a store? You said drink a cup daily…that seems like a lot!

    • Bone broth is a highly nutritious stock made by simmering animal bones and connective tissue. You can buy it at most grocery stores or it can be found online. You can simply make bone broth by boiling bones (beef, chicken, fish, etc) in water with vinegar and optional spices, vegetables and herbs. Broth can boil for as little as 4 hours or up to 48 hrs. (There are some great recipes online) You can enjoy bone broth between meals or it can be your meal by using it as a base for soups, stews or even gravy. Be creative! ~ Jen

    • I can certainly understand your frustration Luci. Have you tried any of these suggestions above. If you feel it could be some kind of food intolerance you should consult your health care provider and they can preform simple tests to determine this.
