This laundry detergent is super easy to make, cost efficient and can be made in large batches or in smaller containers. It can be custom made to your liking. Add essential oils to create your favorite scent or just leave it scent free. There are many different versions on the web but this one is my favorite so far. It works great! So lets get started.

towel

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup Borax
  • 2 cup Washing soda
  • 1 bar soap (I use Fels-Naptha) grated
  • a few drops of your favorite essential oils (optional)

Instructions:

Grate the bar of soap and add to washing soda and Borax. Thoroughly mix together in large bowl. Next I add the mixture to a blender or food processor and pulse it to create a powder that will dissolve easily even in cold water. (Be sure to let the dust settle before removing the lid of your blender or food processor so you don’t inhale the fine particles.) Store in a sealed container with a scoop.

To Use:

Use 1 Tbsp per small load (or 2-3 Tbsp for large or heavily soiled loads).

*I usually add about 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the pre-soak compartment of the washer for an added laundry boost. This helps to remove any build up from previous detergents and it helps the laundry to stay “fresh.”
