There are so many distractions in todays world that prevents us from being in touch with our inner-selves. It’s so easy to drown out that inner voice that may be telling us what to do in certain situations. I can remember a time when I had to make my first “life altering” decision that would have impacted more than just myself. Our first born was in the NICU and we were faced some pretty heavy decisions that we had to make instantly. At first I didn’t know what to do, (pre smart phone/google era) I wanted more time to research so that I could make a more informed decision, but I wasn’t afforded that time so, I went with my gut. I had a strong feeling that I knew my decision was the right one, some may call it women’s intuition, but I feel that if I had gone against my instinct, the circumstance would have had a much different outcome. As it turned out, everything worked out GREAT!
I feel that we have become so out of touch with the that inner voice that we may be missing a valuable part of ourselves. That genuine feeling you get in your heart, in your soul. It’s not something you can be taught, it’s something you are born with and by ignoring our gut feeling we have nothing to go on, no road map.
There is a poem by Shel Silverstein that rings true:
There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long,
“I feel that this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong.”
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
Or wise man can decide
What’s right for you– – just listen to
The voice that speaks inside.
I know that our first go to nowadays is the internet, that’s where we all get most of our information however, as I have recently found, not all answers are there. Sometimes you just need to simply follow your gut. It may not always make sense and it may go against the advise of others but if you “feel it” you are probably right. Never underestimate the power of your gut instinct.
